Why do my wool socks wear out so quickly?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Wool socks are wonderfully warm, especially during cold winter weather. We have many customers who buy new wool socks season after season and are very enthusiastic about them. <\/p>\n

Sometimes, however, we receive a complaint that the wool socks have worn out very quickly. Why is that? <\/p>\n

This can have several causes:<\/p>\n

Rough heels\/calluses causing more friction.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This is easily prevented by using a special foot cream, such as Saicara foot repair cream<\/a>. This quickly gives you smooth, soft heels. And you keep them soft by applying Saicara foot balm<\/a> daily. <\/p>\n

Wearing shoes that are too tight or too loose<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n

It sounds contradictory, but both shoes that are too tight and\/or too loose cause sock problems. Tight shoes cause tension on your socks; if you walk in these daily, they wear out extra fast. <\/p>\n

Shoes that are too loose cause a lot of friction; your socks rub back and forth in your shoes, and this also causes them to wear out extra fast. The best shoes are those that provide enough room for your toes but don’t allow you to slide around inside the shoe. <\/p>\n

Toenails that are too long<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Having toenails that are too long is disastrous for wool socks. Your toenails rub against the wool fibers from the inside, causing them to break. Make sure you trim your toenails regularly, including the edges, and file down any sharp corners if necessary. <\/p>\n

Walking in your socks.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

What many people do after a long day at work is kick off their shoes and continue walking around in their socks. Your socks are not shoes and they are not slippers. If you regularly walk on socks at home, they will wear out sooner, especially on carpeting where they wear out extra fast. <\/p>\n

Moths<\/strong><\/h3>\n

It may be that you don’t wear wool socks in the summer, so they stay in the closet until \"\" wintertime arrives again. Even if you’ve only worn your socks for a short time, never put them back unwashed in your sock drawer or closet\u2014this applies to all types of clothing. Moths love lingering scents and like to lay their eggs on them. The larvae love those spots and will happily eat your socks and clothes; they also love dark places. <\/p>\n

Always wash your socks and clothes before putting or hanging them in your closet, even if you’ve only worn them briefly. Also, leave your closet doors wide open regularly, as moths hate light.<\/p>\n

Mothballs also help, but they release a very pungent odor. An alternative to this is cedarwood. Various cedarwood products against moths can be found online. <\/p>\n

Washing your socks too hot and drying them in the dryer<\/strong><\/h3>\n

It is best to wash wool socks in the washing machine on a special wool wash cycle at a maximum of 30 degrees, and wool should definitely not go in the dryer. For other types of socks, the same applies: do not wash them too hot and preferably not in the dryer, as fibers wear out much faster due to heat. <\/p>\n

It remains difficult to point directly to a single cause.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Hiking \/ intensive use:<\/strong>\u00b1 30\u201350% wool + higher reinforcement<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    At home \/ warmth:<\/strong>70%+ wool (less wear-resistant)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

    • One person walks more in a day than another, or it could be a combination of the mentioned causes.<\/li>\n
    • Wool is nice, warm, and soft and doesn’t cause sweaty feet, but it is also more delicate than polyester socks.<\/li>\n
    • A solution might be socks made of wool, but with a lower wool percentage.<\/li>\n
    • The more wool, the more wear you will experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Do you want the benefits of wool, but don’t want your socks to wear out so quickly?<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

      Then socks with a lower wool percentage and a reinforced fiber<\/strong> are often a better choice.<\/p>\n
